I went on a solo lunchtime ride yesterday and encountered a large wild turkey in eastern Longmont. They invariably make me think, on first sight, that they are hideously disfigured Canada geese, like they've been caught in an industrial accident or something.

On our drive back through Wyoming, we saw a road runner. I felt betrayed by cartoons because I expected a road runner to be as tall as an ostrich, and it wasn't.

It ran across the road in front of the car.

I would like to hideously disfigure some Canada geese. There's a big flock of them at Green Lake, and they've been blocking the inner trail and pooping all over it for weeks now.

Well, if they're anything like domestic geese, their meat is really rich. It's not bad, but I can't eat that much.

I can't imagine that the urban geese near me would be fazed by any inanimate objects. They've got people on foot, skates, and bicycles going right through the flock and maybe they'll waddle a little faster. Maybe.

Lately if the geese at work hiss at me or honk in alarm as I walk by, I talk back to them or even just utter nonsense syllables at loud. It seems to either reassure or startle them into silence.

We should send the geese to Rome. The Italian one.

Somehow I nearly always see wild turkey just after turning a corner. Presumably they listen for oncoming vehicles? I love them and would hate to it one.
