Our county's jury duty orientation includes a pep talk saying that even if you feel like you were sitting around doing nothing and then were dismissed, ACTUALLY the knowledge that all those potential jurors were in the room ready to go puts pressure on the lawyers to hash things out and come to last-minute agreements instead of proceeding to trial...so you did help turn the wheels of justice after all. Is that encouraging? I dunno.
