Today I came home from work a bit early and Monty greeted me at the front door, with significantly less enthusiasm than usual. I mean, she was enthusiastic, she just wasn't dancing around like a lunatic, more plodding over to say hi by whacking her head into me. She did run into the other room, while I was looking at the mail, and I heard her crashing around playing with a toy. I also heard a weird plastic crinkly noise that I didn't recognize, so I went in to see what she was playing with.
There was a big clear plastic bag on the floor, the type usually used for crock pot liners. I happen to use it for keeping my monster loaves of bread in. So I went out and looked, and, sure enough, the cutting board on which the bread loaf sits was empty.
She ate an entire loaf of bread.
Not just any loaf of bread, either. When we got her she weighed 65 pounds. That went up rather rapidly to 85 pounds, and probably well above that before we got portion control down, and now she's on a diet and has gotten down to about 80 pounds or thereabouts. A loaf of the bread I make is 9 cups of flour, 2 cups of liquid, some other stuff. Let's call it four pounds.
She ate it all.
There are tiny crumbs in a few places. The floor looks suspiciously licked everywhere that isn't rug.
I will say she didn't beg at all when I made dinner tonight. She's stretched out on one of the couches, just watching the world go by, maybe kinda smiling a bit.
