Apr. 20th, 2018 08:53 pmI got a spate of spam that appeared to all be from friends, which implies it was me not them that was hacked. Apparently the class of passwords I used 15 years ago is no longer secure. (They're close to random, but short.) I reset my password, and since this is also the main account through which the dsl modem connects, I updated the password there, too.
At which point, nothing worked.
A lot of resetting followed.
For some reason, my modem silently defaults to the wrong Virtual Circuit Identifier, even though it doesn't change any other settings, and I don't have that number memorized. So, once I figured that out, everything worked, but it was kinda stressful there for a few minutes. I am writing all the configuration information down on a post-it note and sticking it to the modem.
