Jul. 9th, 2018 10:58 pmN was wiped out so we went out to dinner, to a place that used to serve Thai and is now making ramen, along with Thai. I asked, and the lady who ran the Thai joint closed it, reopened it as a ramen joint, and then retired and someone else bought it.
We made friends with the waiter, when he saw us playing Pokemon Go. He and I traded Pokemon. nerd alert.
When we got home I took Monty out for a quick walk. Something was scrabbling about in the weeds beside my broken-down old trailer. Usually cats clear out in a hurry when they see Monty, and this wasn't clearing out, so I was nervous that it was a raccoon. Monty VERY MUCH WANTED to investigate, but I dissuaded her. She does listen better: when I tell her no and tug slightly on the leash, she looks around wildly and runs off in the direction I indicate for a few steps, before turning around to stare fixedly again. This is significant progress. Anyway, we cleared out a ways, and a big male skunk came out, keeping a close eye on us, and trotted off behind the mad scientist hut.
This is even worse than it sounds. In the last two years, there have been two rabid skunks found within a kilometer of our house.
I don't think I'm going to convince Monty to leave the scrabbly things in the bushes alone.
This is why she only goes out on a leash.
