The other day I needed yet more plaster of paris for yet more casting experiments. The Spitfire likes a bit of exercise, so I pushed it out of the garage, hopped in, fired it up in a cloud of smoke and rattly noises, and nosed down south to throw a nice big Ingress field, then over to the hardware store where I buy plaster of paris. As I was approaching it, I was behind a brand-new Ford Mustang with All The Options, including a huge sticker on each side that declaimed "662 Horsepower!"
When we both pulled up to the hardware store, two people walked out of it and walked straight over to look at the Spitfire.
The owner of the Mustang gave me the most venomous look I've seen in a long time, as he walked into the store.

My coworker and I presented our new test system for design review today. I'm glad I was there, even though I don't have time to work on that project anymore: I did the initial design architecture and about 70% of the front-end details, and he did a huge chunk of work on the back end. Every time someone asked a question, he'd say "um..." and start sorting through papers, but I could come up with reasons for what we'd done, to the point where the person would ask a question, and I'd scroll to the relevant design page on the overhead projector, and the person asking the question would say "oh, yeah, that'll work well" without me even having to answer.
My ex-boss used to say that when you get to the point where you can design something other people can't easily find fault with, you've learned all you can and you need to start looking for another job.
